Karl Blitz is an older man. A war veteran and hero, he's trying to come to the terms that he cannot remain active as he was in his youth. But somebody has to keep the innocent safe.
I've considered a few redesigns for Karl as the lore around him becomes more realized. Designs include young and older versions of Karl to give the possibility of flashbacks and origin stories.
Joseph Bueller is an entomologist by day and aspiring stand up comedian by night. One day, while working in his lab with infected ants, a freak accident caused an unusual transfer of Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, the zombie fungus, to infect Joseph. Now Joseph is no longer...and all we have now is The Bugger.
The Bugger was actually the second character I created, after Karl, but the first I gave a back story: an entomologist aspiring to be a stand up comedian. When RSK was just a run-off joke about "cut" puns, The Bugger was a character that added to those jokes, albeit it in an annoying way; hence The Bugger.
His bug fascination that lead him to pursue entomology got him the nickname "Bug Boy" growing up. His corny and annoying jokes then turned the nickname to "The Bug".
The Bugger appears in Rapid Slash Karl covers #1 Forced Exorbration (which is a misspelling of excerebration - oops! - which is a surgery to remove or cut a piece of the brain) and #3 Cut It Out. Both a "cut" puns and a hint at the incessant character that is The Bugger.
Without an official name, this "extra" has made his way into two separate Rapid Slash Karl productions. The first appearance came be way of the receiving end of a swooping Uppercut. At the time, I only wanted a random villain to receive the blasting strike from Karl. The concept was a man with a gas mask because gas masks are easy to draw. That's it really. From a gas mask, I added a gas tank, and the story came out of all this gas: a man with a fixation for gases and smokes. Some to paralyze; some to hypnotize.
The second time we encounter this "Smoker" fellow is in line to a Super Talent Show in the first Rapid Slash Karl comic strip Cut In Line, albeit in a slightly different getup. In this cameo, he is wearing the full hood and mask combo with a new gas nozzle in hand. Around "Smoker" are a few other un-credited characters with the potential for future appearances.
Carver is the name given to an animate scarecrow, although nobody knows what it calls itself nor from where it came. It haunts the patches and fields during harvest season, carving its victims with its knife.
Carver makes an appearance in two RSK covers: #7 Karl X Carver and #8 Pumpkin Slice, with Chef Chen digging a cleaver into its...pumpkin. Both covers came out on Halloween and All Hallow's Day, respectively.
Chef Chen is Karl's friendly rival. Although amicable, Karl and Chen tend to go against each other more often than not. A fellow veteran to Karl, when Karl continued his days as a hero, Chen chose to head into the family business and open a restaurant.
Although retired from his soldier days and no longer a hero, Chef Chen comes to Karl's aide and saves the day several times.
Chef Chen has been featured in Rapid Slash Karl Halloween cover #8 Pumpkin Slice. On the cover he can be seen defeating the foe, Carver, as Karl is seen standing, idly, in the background.
On his very first personal outing, Cold Cuts, Chen can be seen standing over Karl holding two sub sandwiches, looking menacing.
A sailor mouthed, rough, and opportunistic privateer of the open seas and fast streets, Capitán Barba has a reputation that precedes him. His relationship to Karl is a confusing one. Although he operates under the radar of the law, Barba has been known to do, even sacrifice, for the greater good. For this reason, Karl and Barba are often friends one day and foes the other.
